Program Description:
This week's program featured Jurtbirrk or love songs of the Iwaidja speaking Australian aborigines from the Northwestern Arnhem Land. Iwaidja is an endangered language spoken by less than 200 people in the Croker Island and the Coburg peninsula in Northern Territory today. The Jurtbirrk love songs that are spontaneously written and performed by Iwaidja speaking males tell stories of everyday love affair among the people. The songs played in this week’s program were taken from the only CD ever published on the Jurtbirrk songs by the Batchelor Press. This week's program was produced and presented by Obaidul Haque.
